The Heartland Girls Golf team headed south as they competed in the invitational tournament at Hidden Acres Golf Club in Beatrice last Friday August 31, 2012. Here are the comments and scores from Head Coach Jon Baehr:

Friday August 31, 2012 at Hidden Acres Golf Club in Beatrice NE

This was a great day for our team and for each one of our girls.  We came out and far exceeded my expectations as far as team score and for each individual on our team.  As a team we took second overall on the day.  We shot a 405 on the day, which is 45 strokes lower then our school record used to be, and we did that without our number two golfer.  Norris High School was first with a 387.

Paige Mestl shot her low tournament round in high school competition while setting the school record for an individual with an 80 on the day.  Paige was second on the day, while the first place finisher shot a 77. Paige is really doing well on the course and has put in the time in the summer to shoot these types of scores.  She has tried hard to make her game more complete, and it is showing on the course.  I look for Paige to continue to have a great year.

Kaitlyn Quiring had her best day on the course as well by shooting a 109.  She is making some little adjustments and is always willing to try something to help her out, the key for her is that she is hitting the ball much better then she was at this time last year.  I think if Kaitlyn can shore up some little things on the putting green she can shoot lower then she even thinks she can.

Lydia Quiring also had her best day on the course.  She shot a 104 on the day.  Lydia has made some major improvements in her game from last year to this year.  She tied for 15th on the day, but lost out on a medal in a score card playoff.  As a whole, this is a major step for Lydia and I am very excited to see what she can do as the year goes on.

Steph Stamp is a new addition to the golf team this year.  She is a senior who decided to give our golf team a try this season, and for her first time on the course she shocked all of us and shot a very solid score for someone who was playing in her first tournament and shot 112.  This is something that has happened pretty quick for her, and she is going to have some rough days here and there, but as a whole, I couldn’t be happier with the first time out.

Kaeli Lundstrom also had her best 18 hole round and shot a 124.  Kaeli was a bit disappointed with her play, but I feel she is a doing some good things and is getting better.  From the first time she swung a club last season till now she has made great strides.

I am really looking forward to this season and to seeing what types of scores we can put up as the year goes on.  We play in some very tough tournaments coming up and we will be able to see what we really have in regards to the ability that we possess.  That being said, having the day we had on Friday is a great feeling and it is fun to see the girls have that much success!
