Congratulations to the Heartland Huskie Girls Golf team on winning the Fullerton Invite at Pawnee Hills Golf Course yesterday. Â Coach Jon Baehr’s comments after the win:
This was another good outing for us as a team. On Thursday we were able to win the Fullerton Invite and continue our strong season thus far. This team is continuing to shoot scores that are very solid and they are leading them to wins and individual accomplishments that make me feel really good about where we are going as a team.Individually I was happy to see that we had several girls shoot their low rounds of their year and their career. Sam Boardman shot a 102 and placed first overall in the tournament. The 102 was a low for Sam. The key for Sam is that I think she has the ability to shoot an even lower score then that. She is really starting to show her all around game. She is 3 holes away from shooting down in the low 90’s and doing something special. Overall, I was happy with how Sam played and she seems to be stepping it up at the right time.Steph Stamp also shot her low of the season. Steph fired a 102 on the day as well. She placed second at the tournament and was a big boost for our team score on Thursday. Steph has really started to come on this season and has made a remarkable improvement as the year has gone on. I was happy to see her play as well as she did and I know that she is very happy with her overall play.Lydia Quiring shot a 106. Lydia placed 5th at this tournament. Lydia has really stayed steady in her scores this season. She is really just a steady player for our team this season. Her emergence on the season has been a big part of our success and I still feel she has the ability to get better and shoot even better scores. She struggled with her driver a bit, but was able to work her way through the round.Kaitlyn Quiring shot 114 and Paige Mestl shot 115. Kaitlyn managed to really put together a solid back nine after a rough front nine on Thursday. Kaitlyn is much better then she gives herself credit for, but will need to find a bit more consistency in her game to take it to the next level. As a whole though Kaitlyn is really improving and doing good things. Paige had a rough day and was very frustrated. The day as a whole for Paige is one that she will need to brush off and move on as it just wasn’t her day. There is no doubt in my mind though that Paige will bounce back and get back into shooting in the low 80’s where she belongs.Emily Ott had an up and down day but did manage to get through her first 18 hole round and shot a 137. I know Emily is hard no herself at times with her score, but her attitude and work ethic on her game has been a great addition to our team this season. I know that JV golf is not always glitz and glamour, but she has really added to our team. Kaeli Lundstrom fired a 130 for her 18 hole round. Kaeli is also very hard on herself, but she again showed an ability to shoot a steady round of golf. The course at Fullerton is a little longer for girls, and that can be a challenge, but I though Kaeli managed her game well and shot a solid score. I believe if Kaeli puts in the time this summer she can really see improvement in her overall game.
