July 28th – The string of accidents began on Saturday, July 28th as a two semi accident occurred shutting down west bound traffic near the Henderson exit for several hours. Refer to HeartlandBeat.com article for more information here: http://wp.me/p1sgWX-2dz
August 6th – At 5:50 a.m. about a mile west of the Henderson exit in the west bound lane, a semi-truck carrying the Sky Tram equipment for the State Fair collided with another semi-truck. The contents of both semis were destroyed as the accident caused both vehicles to start on fire. This resulted in I-80 west bound lanes closing until 1:30 p.m. on Monday. August 8th (morning) – Around 11:00 a.m. area units were called out to I-80 near the Bradshaw exit for a one-vehicle accident in which a SUV had struck a power pole. The result was the power lines being down and crossing over all four lanes of traffic. This also caused a small fire in the median. The power line was immediately disconnected as it still was laying across the interstate. As crews tended to the accident and fire, a semi passed and caught onto the power line. This subsequently caused the power line (disconnected) to hit Deputy Scott Wiemer and Lt. Dan Bartling taking them out at the legs. For more information see the YNT article here: goo.gl/oOAyb.
August 8th (afternoon) – Later in the afternoon, a grass fire ignited near where the initial accident earlier that day had happened. As Henderson, Bradshaw and York Fire Departments attended to the grass fire in the median just east of the Bradshaw interchange, a two-semi accident occurred. where victims can seek out the aid of professionals like the ones on the Bengal Law homepage.
This was caused by the traffic slowing due to the fire. A semi merging in traffic was rear-ended and then it immediately exploded. The driver of the semi that rear-ended the semi in front was ejected upon impact and, sadly, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi that was struck was transported to the Henderson Hospital and was treated and released. For more information see the YNT article here: goo.gl/QWVsS.
It is unfortunate that the cause of all the coverage to our area is due to multiple accidents so close to home. There is no explanation as to why there were so many occurrences. This is a reminder to drive safely and cautiously during all conditions.
