With the end of the school year, the Henderson Chamber of Commerce is busy planning all of the events that will be happening in Henderson this summer.  There is a great schedule of events this year to keep children, youth and adults busy with fun community activities.

The first event to kickoff the summer is the Henderson Community Foundation Golf Tournament on Saturday, June 9, at Galaway Creek Golf Course beginning at 8 a.m. This event is a fundraiser for the Henderson Community Foundation Scholarship Endowment Fund, which presents at least one scholarship each year to a Heartland Community Schools graduate who shows interest in returning to the communities of Henderson and Bradshaw later in life.  Registration will be taken until the shotgun start, so it is never too late to sign up. June 9th is also the Community Wide Garage Sales in Henderson from 8 am – 2 pm, so it is the perfect opportunity to send the guys golfing and find the many treasures for sale at 30+ garage sales.  In order to register your garage sale, contact Ruth Peters at (402) 723-4253. Maps for the garage sales will be available starting June 2 at Henderson FoodMart.

June also marks the start of the 2012 Henderson Farmers Market Season, which takes place on Tuesday evenings from 5-7 p.m. in the downtown park.  With a variety of vendors selling produce, jellies, jams, baked goods soybean mulch and free range eggs, there is something for everyone at this weekly event beginning June 5 and continuing until August 14th.  You can even “like” Henderson NE Farmers Market on Facebook to receive updates about what will be sold at the Farmers Market each week.

For the second year in a row we will have Henderson Community Night at a Lincoln Saltdogs Game on Sunday, June 10, at Haymarket Park at 5:05 pm. This is a great community promotion event as well as a great way to spend some time with your family.  Tickets are still available through the Chamber at a reduced rate of $9 per person.  Purchase your tickets at the Chamber Office, located at City Hall, or during the Farmers Market on June 5.

On June 16, the 4th Food Demonstration will take place at Heartland Community Schools at 10 am in the Family Consumer Science Room.  For $15 you can learn to make Rull Kuchen and Russian Pancakes in the same class.  Tickets may be purchased the day of the event or in advance at City Hall.

On June 24, Heritage Park will have a new tour in coordination with the 125th Anniversary of Henderson.  It will be a Shop Tour where you can tour the many unique garages in Henderson from 4-7 p.m.  Stops on the tour include Custom Wood Products, Joe Pankratz, Phil Goertzen, Bob Friesen and Don Huebert.  Ticket for $10 will be available at Heritage Park the day of the tour.

Get out your old bike, dust it off and come cruise the streets of Henderson July 4. The Henderson Downtown Park is the meeting place, 7 p.m. is the time.  We will cruise the streets of Henderson, stopping briefly outside 3 homes to hear its story. The ride will end at the park with root beer floats. Reflectors on the back of your bike are encouraged and lights if you have them.

We will round out the summer events as we have a large celebration for the 125th Anniversary of Henderson during Henderson Community Days July 13-15.  This year’s schedule is a little different from past years, so you will want to pay close attention to what is scheduled.  On Friday July 13, there will be the Henderson Chamber BBQ, a Family Pool Party, Dodgeball Tournament, and Fireworks Display.  On Saturday morning there will be a pancake feed, the 5K and 10K races, the Main Street Parade, Heartland Hoedowners performance and Food Stands.  In the afternoon there will be the 14th Annual Show and Shine Car Show, a Siphone Tube Contest and FREE Kids games in the Downtown Park.  To round out the evening the Henderson/Heartland Alumni Banquet will be held at Heartland Community Schools.  The weekend will finish up on Sunday, July 15, with a Community Church Service in the downtown park, the Q125 Hamburger Fry and a Golf Tournament.

With so many great activities happening this summer, be sure to mark you calendar with each date listed above and contact the Chamber for more information about any of these great events by calling (402) 723-4228, emailing hchamber@mainstaycomm.net, or visiting www.HendersonNE.com.
