Michael & Sara Brune Share May Student of the Month

You may have heard of sibling rivalry but that is totally not the case for HeartlandBeat’s Co-Students of the Month–Michael and Sara Brune. “I have to be my brother’s biggest fan!” said Sara happily when discussing their recent track accomplishments.  And the same goes for Michael when they talk about how the timing of their respective running and field events usually make it easy for them to cheer each other on.

“I was so impressed with their hard work, dedication, positive attitude and how they love each other,” said nominating Heartland teacher Mrs. Carrie Regier.  This was brought home to Mrs. Regier recently at a track meet when Sara had a bad day running the hurdles.  According to Mrs. Regier, she turned her loss into a positive by saying, “It doesn’t matter, I’m so proud of my brother!”

It’s no surprise that they were they were chosen as Co-MVP’s for the Heartland Track team this season.  “We love track and it’s what we talk a lot about at home,” said Sara.   When Michael made it to state in the pole vault his sophomore year and Sara didn’t she was there to support him.  They flip-flopped the following year when Sara made it to state in the hurdles and Michael didn’t.   It was extra special this year for Michael’s senior year and Sara’s junior, to both make it to state in three events each.  Their friends wore “Team Brune” t-shirts at the State Track Meet which aptly describes their supportive relationship.

Michael graduated this year and plans to attend UNL where he will major in Business Administration.  “It’s been awesome being in school together, so it will be hard not being together,” said Michael.  They’ve enjoyed having the same friends and involved in several extracurricular activities such as Band, National Honor Society, and FCA together.  They even share the same birthday on the 12th but not the same month.

As close as they are, they do have a few different interests.  Sara is in Art Club and loves painting as a hobby.  Michael has been involved in FFA throughout school and they do play different instruments in band–Michael the trumpet and Sara the saxophone.

Their jobs this summer even match up.  Michael will work on the farm for Johnnie Steingard and Sara at Rick Siebert’s farm.  They live with their parents Paul and Diane Brune in Bradshaw who thoroughly enjoy supporting each of them in their many activities.

Congratulations to both Michael and Sara on all their success and being chosen as HeartlandBeat’s Co-Student’s of the Month!
