Two of the quilters that will be featured in the Q125 Quilt Show later this month are also avid volunteers and were each uniquely involved in the recent Nebraska Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) Sale.
Wendy Janzen, who started sewing as a 4-H’er in her hometown of Milton, KS, served as the quilt chairperson for the sale this year. Her responsibilities ranged from receiving quilt entry cards and creating the quilt ‘guide book’ to hanging the quilts for viewing at the sale and much more. Wendy currently has a small daycare business in her rural Henderson home. She enjoys sewing and other hobbies such as scrapbooking and crafting. Wendy got into making baby blankets and quilts after she got married and really enjoys it.
Marion Friesen’s contribution to the 2012 MCC Sale included making over 80 items to be sold in the “Children’s Cornerâ€! Marion has made many quilts over the years but on the occasion of her 50th wedding anniversary she gave every one of her children and grandchildren each a large and a small quilt. She has also given her antique quilts to her children. Recently she has been most inspired by Kaffee Fassett. She enjoys collecting his books, patterns and fabrics. Most of her entries in the quilt show will feature his patterns, fabrics or both.
Henderson’s Q125 Quilt Show will take place at the Henderson Mennonite Heritage Park (1.5 miles south of the Henderson I-80 exit) on April 28 and 29 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day. The entry fee will cover both viewing of the nine quilters’ handiwork as well as entry into the Heritage Park Buildings.
