The 2011-2012 Heartland Huskie Basketball season is just around the corner.  Both boys’ and girls’ teams kick off their basketball season at home against Wilber-Clatonia tomorrow evening.

The girls’ team has a lot to build on from last year.  With returning starters: Senior, Jen Yoder and Brielle van den Berg, Juniors, Ashton Kroeker, Sara Brune and Mikaelyn Dick as well as Sophomore, Bailey Carr.  They also have some great experience in Senior, Miranda Janzen and the bench for the Huskies will be very deep this year.  With the talent the Huskies have, they are very hopeful on the year and look to improve their 9-12 record from last year’s season.  Coach Veerhuesen is back for his second season with the team and brings with him, past head girl’s coach, and now assistant, Erik Wetjen.

The boy’s team remains hopeful to better their last year’s season record of 5-17.  The team lost five big seniors from last year, but have a bright future in a promising freshman class.  Returning starters are senior, Cody Brown and junior, Brent Regier. Senior, Micheal Brune brings a lot of experience and talent to the floor as well.  Coach Baehr is back for his second season with assistant coach, Tim Wiemer.  The coaches have high hopes for the returning talent and the young players coming in to make an impact.
