Going ‘Above and Beyond’ is probably something that Bradshaw’s Dillon Scheil did not even realize he was doing.  However, for all the community service that he does in Hastings in the summer, on August 11, the Kiwanis Club nominated and awarded Scheil with their Outstanding Youth Award.Scheil heads to Hastings and spends a lot of time there during the summer due to his grandparents living there.  While spending time in Hastings, Scheil not only spends time with his grandparents, he also gives his efforts and hard work back to the community.
Scheil, a thirteen year-old who just started his 8th grade year at Heartland Community Schools is also involved with league baseball, Junior High football, basketball and track. Scheil also is strongly involved in the Mennonite Brethren Church’s Youth Group.
Scheil says he likes taking time out of his busy life and go to Hastings to spend some quality time with his grandparents and to get some distance from his two ‘loving’ sisters, Morgan and Taylynn.  Jokes aside, he does enjoy having his sisters join him in Hastings as well as his parents, Todd and Valerie Scheil as they spend family time at Lake Hastings for some water skiing.
Some community events Scheil was involved in this summer at Hastings was Kids Against Hunger, the Postal Food Drive, other Kiwanis Community Service activities and he volunteered at the Recovery in the Park Celebration.
Whether he knows it or not, Scheil is wise beyond his years and his efforts have been rewarding to the Hastings community, his family, friends and himself. Â Congratulations Dillon Scheil. Keep up the good work!
