If you have chosen to take a walk around the lake as the sun retreats behind the horizon, you may have noticed a pleasant surprise as you round the corner to the park. Lakeview now has Park Lights!

The Henderson Planning Commission has had this on their plate as a project for a while. Shari Peters and Daphne Hall, chairman of the committee, took the project under their wings. The Park Commission had dissolved and the Planning Commission took on the role of heading up the project. Peters said that this was a project that has sat idle for years and she appreciated the hard work Hall had taken to get the ball rolling. They knew this was vital to the park due to the numerous people who walk at night and also due to the ball diamonds and the foot traffic they bring. The lights would provide a safe area at night. Prior to the light, it was definitely a very dark area near the lake and bridges.

Peters and Hall were determined to make this a high priority project on and with Janzen Electric (Paul and son Wade), the four lights were installed in late June just in time for Henderson Community Days. Peters said Hall played a very crucial role in the project and making it happen. Together they picked out the type and style of lighting (shining down and not out) that would be needed and put the proposal together for presentation to the City Council, from which, it got approved with much support.

Peters spoke of the lights and said this is just the beginning to making the park a safe atmosphere at night time. The Planning Commission’s goal is to have lighting go from bridge to bridge. They have a meeting coming up soon where they will discuss other lighting options to illuminate the bridges so people can see them at night.

The walk path and park is a great asset to the Henderson Community and all the improvements happening to the area make it that much more safe and very much enjoyable.

  1. I really appreciate the results of the Planning Commission’s hard work to get these lights up. The downward lighting works very well for this setting and was much needed. Thanks!
