Henderson Heritage & Tourism is planning a celebration to wrap-up their fundraising campaign. More than $100,000 has been raised towards their $250,000 goal for completing the Henderson Mennonite Heritage Park in the next five years. The public is invited to come to the Heartland School theater on Sunday, January 16 at 4 P.M. to hear keynote speaker Dr. Lauren Friesen. Immediately following, a traditional Faspa (zweiback, bologna, cheese, pickles, apple prieschka) will be served in the cafeteria. Free will donations will be accepted at this event.
Dr. Friesen is a Henderson graduate who like many who were raised and educated in Henderson have gone on to have successful and interesting careers. He is the David M. French Distinguished Professor of Theater at the University of Michigan-Flint and Chair of the Department of Theater and Dance. He has over 30 publications (books, essays, and poetry) and a number of theaters have produced his plays. He has researched and written articles on Mennonite History focusing on the historical background for the Russian (Henderson) Mennonite branch dating back to the 1580ʼs.
Donors will be recognized at the event who have contributed towards Henderson Heritage & Tourismʼs capital campaign. Everyone is welcome to attend the program in the theater and Faspa following in the cafeteria.
