anneAnne Regier says she has the classic story of wanting to become a teacher. Her mom was a schoolteacher, she grew up always pretending to be a teacher, and she loved kids. Naturally, this led her to the path of earning a teaching degree.

It was Anne’s student teaching semester that led her to a second grade class in Henderson. After a great experience, she then went on to teach at Hampton Lutheran for eight years. Anne took a break from full-time teaching to stay home with her children while still staying connected to the school by subbing and later through being a paraprofessional. This school year, however, she was able to jump back into the teaching role by becoming Heartland’s Family Consumer Science teacher.

“I finally feel like I’m home,” commented Anne. While it has been a year of transitions, she has found her place in the FCS classroom where her two passions, teaching and homemaking, collide. Her enthusiasm is evident through the appealing curriculum she has been developing through the year. This includes connecting students to technology by doing projects found on Pinterest and Etsy and doing cooking spinoffs from shows like “Cupcake Wars”.  While still teaching life skills, Anne has given the department a modern makeover.

Nominated for Teacher of the Month by Secondary Principal Tim Carr, he explained, “Anne connects well with students as they learn and study life skills, nutrition, and health in the area of Family and Consumer Science. Anne also took over concessions this year and continued to provide excellent choices for fans.”

“I love everything about teaching at Heartland,” commented Anne. “I enjoy collaborating with the Heartland staff. We are like a working machine, and everybody has their part.” Coming from the experience of a large school in Kansas, she also appreciates the small town feel of the school while it still offers so many options of classes and activities for the students. Also at these activities, you can often find Anne and her FCS students working at the concessions and having an opportunity to put their classroom skills into practice.

When she’s not at the school, Anne enjoys doing yardwork and spending time with family. In the summer, you can also find her managing the Henderson Pool.

Congratulations to Anne on being selected as the Heartland Beat Teacher of the Month.
