Remodeled Grocery Store Aisle

Henderson’s grocery store may have been closed for the last few weeks, but the building has been anything but quiet.  The grocery store closed down on November 30 for remodeling during a change of ownership.  A group of 30+ investors from the Henderson area purchased the store.  Since then, the store has received a thorough cleaning, fresh paint, a new floor, a new produce case, a remodeled bakery, and other exciting updates.  Investors, employees, and volunteers have spent late nights and early mornings renovating the store.

When you enter the remodeled store, you will still be able to find many of your old favorite items along with different products.  Transitioning to new items and building a larger inventory will take a little time though.  There are also possible plans to create a convenience area at the front of the store where individuals could quickly grab convenience items such as a fountain pop, a latte, or a slice of pizza.  Another possible service is to offer a featured meal each day.

Managing the store will be Stannette Spickelmier who moved to the area in August.  Stannette has 16 years of grocery store experience.  She is excited for the store to reopen and has many neat ideas.  One particular service she is looking forward to offering is the making of meat and cheese trays, fruit baskets, and baskets for all different occasions.  Stannette’s husband works at Circle 5 Feedyard and they have two children.  One is a college student in Texas, and the other is a sophomore at Heartland.

The assistant manager of the store will be Donna Bankston.  Donna and her husband relocated to the area from Mississippi in April of 2011 when they purchased the RV Park by the interstate.  This is Donna’s first official job in the grocery business, but she jokes that she does have experience after all the grocery shopping she did with her many kids.  One of her children is a seventh grader at Heartland.

While it has been difficult to not have a grocery store in town, the store was in need of a face-lift.  The inconvenience has also brought a shared realization in the community just how important this service is.  The grocery store will be open Monday through Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.  They will still be accepting the stamp cards and hope to eventually add some more items that the cards can be redeemable on.  The store is set to reopen today, December 14.
