It was an intense game last night as the Huskies faced Bruning-Davenport-Shickley in sub-district finals. In the end, all was well as the Huskies defeated BDS in 32-27 victory and will advance to the district finals where they will face Friend.

The game started off similar to the last game the Huskies played. They seemed a bit out of rhythm and found themselves trailing by one at half. Neither team was finding the hoop well in the first half as the score was 12-13.

The second half was a different story. The Huskies began to show some heart and step up their game. Still missing starting point guard, Ashton Kroeker, Sophomore Bailey Carr stepped up her game and started looking to drive down low and drew some fouls.

It was junior, Mikaelyn Dick that showed up big in the second half to kick start the Huskie offense. Mikaelyn only had five points in the first half, but came out big in the second hitting some real big shots and ending the night with team high 20 points.

The Huskies started seeing the court and their teammates to make some big plays happen. A big and-one play off a pick and roll with Mikaelyn Dick and Sara Brune seemed to seal the deal as BDS were forced to start fouling as the fourth quarter neared the end. However, some rocky free throw shooting by the Huskies kept the fans on the edge of their seats till the very end. It was the determination by Heartland that came out on top.

The team gears up to play another game that will determine if they receive a State Tournament berth. The Huskies will travel to the neutral location TBD to face Friend on Friday, February 24th @ 7pm.

Come and cheer on the Huskies as it will be a big game. If you can not make it, the game will be LIVE Audio on the Huskie Sports Network on HeartlandBeat.com.
